How come a lot of brands or companies are very boring on social media, while they know it’s very important and high on the agenda?
Their not brave enough.
And the funny thing is that marketing people making these decisions are the same people, together with thousands of other people who will laugh, like and share the same stuff that needed lot of bravery.
You can’t always talk about the product.
It’s boring, and probably the product isn’t that different anyway. It’s the brand that makes the difference. Whether it’s purpose, something you believe in, find interesting or necessary and yes, the product is part of that ‘proposition’.
Be human as a brand.
It’s what ‘social’ stands for in Social Media, being social, not talk about selling. So be interesting enough, so people like to follow you, not because of the product, but for what the brand stands for.
That calls for creativity
… and sometimes that’s out of the box. But what else is there? I’ve been in many situations where great, creative ideas scared the living sh#%t out of people, but when they saw the kind-of same idea somewhere else or much later in time they liked it.
We all know the Apple baseline, Think different and it still makes sense (when you live up to it).
Think different.
Our brain is trained to spot the differences, not to see what we see al the time. It is the stuff that stands out that will make sense (when relevant (funny, interesting, touching, stimulating, doing good, …)) or better said, emotional resonance and therefore has impact, it’s how the brain works and remembers. Check the long and short of it of Les Binet & Peter Field.
Be brave.
